Dinner Time! Feeding Guide for your dog.

Feeding a raw diet is extremely easy, you need to be a little more organised than feeding kibble, but the benefits are worth it.

For every 10 kg of dog weight you need to feed the following daily amounts:

  • 200g meat
  • 200g vegetables
  • 200g fruit

eg: dog weight = 20kg

  • 400g meat
  • 400g vegetables
  • 400g fruit

Add to this nuts, seeds and herbs, a good vitamin and mineral supplement and a good quality omega oil.  I use Yumega Plus.

It can be very difficult when you first start out with natural feeding to know if you are doing it right. I was very concerned at first as I didn't really know if I was giving my dogs all of the correct food groups, vitamins and minerals. I read as many books as I could and spoke to many different people to re-assure me. The biggest problem I had was knowing how much to feed them. Then it occured to me that I have manged to feed myslf and my family perfectly well for many years and we are all very healthy, so it couldn't be that difficult to feed my dogs a healthy diet.

There are four basic food groups which you should include in your dogs diet:

  1. Meat and bones
  2. Vegetables
  3. Fuit
  4. Herbs/Seeds/Nuts

IMPORTANT THINGS TO ALWAYS REMEMBER

Raisins are Poisonous to Dogs
Only ever feed your dog raw bones - Never Cooked
Feed organ meat once per week and Avoid mincing it if possible.
If your dog seems to be very hungry try adding a filler such as bown rice, buckwheat or quinoa. Use this as part of the fruit and veg mix.
Treats: Use Baked Liver For Training, Dried Fruit, Nuts Or Part Of Their Daily Allowance (can be a bit messy!)  I make home made liver cake for mine.
You can be very clever to help keep the costs down by buying your fruit and veg from the market, always ask if they have any that they are about to throw away, look for reduced items In the supermarket, pick your own or grow your own.
Most Important Of All:- Do your own research, speak to as many people as you can and gather as much information as you can. Then make up your own mind as to how you wish to feed your pets.

If Your Dog Is Overweight - Feed Him Less
If Your Dog Is Underweight - Feed Him More
If Your Dog Is At The Correct Weight - Carry On As You Are

As with humans - each dog is different, and how much you feed your dog will depend on its age, breed and amount of exercise he gets.
